Here is the full draft plan that was presented to our Board. Our presentation kicked off the public input phase for our Strategic Plan, which will guide the Port's future.

We will seek a Board vote on the final draft in the Fall.

I really beieve development of this area is a catch 22. I think back to last year when I visited New Orleans and how their entire commerce is built on the tourist trade but people where just so drunk. We had that in the flats in the late 80's and drunks were throwing each other in the river and dieing, it became a very unsafe place. It seems we need to promote family ventures for tourism to be sustainable down there and without drinking that area really does die in the winter months. Perhaps moving the Public Square Ice Rink down there in a larger format could work for the winter,
I also like the idea of using this shipping industry for shipping big wind turbines. With so much of our area having an industrial background and so much of the shipping industry using containers. I am left wondering why these containers cannot be recycled into container homes, from the examples I find on the internet of container homes what it seems you end up with is a fortress for a home. Offloading containers for recycled fabrication seems like perfect fit for a place straved for jobs like Lorain. It also seems like a good way to replenish deteriorated housing stock.
This is just not about making the port of Cleveland viable again. Lorain, Fairport Harbor, Sandusky, and Toledo have suffered greatly as our industrial landscape has changed.

All I can say is this:
Which number is this action plan, and how many plans does it take before we see actual action?

This Wednesday, 8/31, we're interviewing Cleveland Cuyahoga County Port Authority director Will Friedman for the podcast. If you haven't read the new draft strategic plan, you should, and one of his VPs--Brian Lynch--has been doing a great job engaging with citizens on their questions and concerns about the plan. From the looks of things, the port is geared up to direct its considerable resources on shoring up the Cuyahoga River. That represents a huge, and many say, much needed, change at the public agency. We plan to ask Friedman about it, and we'd like to include any questions you might have, too. The interview is this Wednesday morning, so, if you've got any questions, add them to the conversation.
